ACTIVITIES

Besides its life activity of providing various training courses in the art of magic, the Academy is also engaged in offering its service for the sustainable development of magicians. Here are only a few among such milestone endeavours.
International festivals of magic

The Academy organises magic festivals of international magnitude. The series of such magical conferences titled, Vismayam were organised in 1998, 2000, 2006 and 2008. Magicians bearing a global fame are made part of the event.

Street magic festivals

First ever festival of traditional Indian street magicians, was organised by the Academy on 10th and 11th of December, 2005. As part of the Golden Jubilee of the formation of the Kerala State, the event titled, Mazma was held under the support of the Department of Culture, Government of Kerala. It was a shining start for the conservation of a legion of flag bearers of Indian magical heritage. It was a meaningful endeavour to bring to the society’s attention about the pathetic plight of traditional street magicians who are on the verge of extinction in this hurricane of development.
The Academy has now taken up a project of building an asylum for the permanent rehabilitation of traditional street magicians of the country. Magic Festivals are held all over Kerala with the aim of gathering necessary funds for realising this philanthropic dream. Accident Insurance for magicians
In a historic launch, the Academy has brought all active magicians of the country under an accident insurance of Rs.25000. The premium for the same was borne by the Academy whereas the insurance was granted by the New India Assurance Co. Ltd.

Data bank on magicians
The Academy has published a complete data of Kerala magicians in 1998 and a national directory of magicians in 2004. Now the Academy is compiling an extended data bank on Indian magicians. The new directory title, Magic India is scheduled to be published on 1st of January 2008.

Remembering the masters of the past
Commemorative days in magic are observed with due significance, at this hub of magic. Houdini Day on 31st of October, Vazhakunnam Day on 9th of Feb. etc. are special days here. Honouring senior magicians, recognising talented young magicians, feast and festivities are all part of such days.
